MAIPR Induction – September, 2008. Keywords Project.

Student-led Theatre/performance Keywords Project – structure and outline content.

The exercise runs during all five days of the Induction and has four main aspects:

1. students define course keywords introduced in staff presentations
2. students each contribute further keywords and definitions
3. students frame ‘challenges’ in relation to keywords
4. students select and combine images/sound/texts/etc. (materials) to make collages/clips (max 30 secs long) for use in interactions based on keyword challenges

This blog has been created so that students can share their work and evolve understandings of the keywords/definitions/challenges/responses.

• students are asked in advance of Induction to:

(a) select and bring one theatre/performance keyword and a definition of that word drawn from a good native-language dictionary (e.g. equivalent, or as close as possible, to Shorter Oxford English Dictionary) as follows, for each student:
(i) for non-native-English speakers, one keyword in their own first language that does not translate at all or easily into English;
(ii) for native-English speakers, one keyword that is specific to their own region/subculture/age group/etc., e.g. not generally in common use elsewhere, plus a definition from a good dictionary.

(b) select and bring materials in the form of images/sound/texts/other media
relevant to their chosen keyword for use in making collages/clips during the
Induction that can be shown by telematic video (max 30 secs long) – format of
Collages/clips to be made during the Induction may be Powerpoint or similar
programme.
